Automating and streamlining the tasks associated with software distribution and maintenance allows IT to accelerate and scale operations. A standardized approach to provision, patch and upgrade across all layers of software infrastructure improves predictability and control.
Rapid Home Provisioning (RHP) is a new feature in Oracle Database 12c that allows for centralized software deployment. Software is installed once, stored on an RHP server, and then provisioned to any node or cluster in the private cloud.
For maintenance, RHP minimizes impact by distributing new homes out-of-place, and applying rolling updates whenever possible. A single command performs the entire operation and a simple switchback command is available in case problems arise. Upgrades are handled in a similar fashion.
By relieving the burdens of software maintenance, the IT organization can meet the demands of the scale and pace that cloud is bringing, and focus on innovative activities that bring the most business value.
